How To Surround Yourself Around The Right People?

Previously I wrote a post describing who the ‘right people’ are, and the benefits they provide to your life. Today I wish to take it a bit further, sharing with you the way I think, with regards to attracting honest, genuine people who want to be a part of your life.

Firstly I want to hold my hand up and say ‘I don’t know how to find them’. Or rather, there isn’t a predetermined process to follow that will attract these people to you. Truth be told, they aren’t all held in a remote island in the southern hemisphere. This topic somewhat reminds me of the popular phrase ‘where are all the good men?’

There is a good chance that they’re around you already. However, people will enter and exit your life at a faster rate than a rare item of clothing is sold at a luxurious shopping centre.

Your goal isn’t just to find people – but rather to find people who care about you

It’s easy to find people, there are about 7 billion people in the world to play hide and seek with. However, it is up to you to filter these individuals as they enter your lives.

Become clear on what your beliefs, values and main ideologies are – and ensure that the overall gist of perspectives on life are similar. Having great friends isn’t determined by the number of shared interests you have – that’s not true compatibility.

True compatibility is the degree to which two or more individuals resonate with one another. With great regard to how they identify and express themselves with honour, amongst the trinity of trust, honest and respect. This isn’t just true with friendship but in any relationship – family, love and even business.

Expression and Acceptance

Probably the two most important words in this post. If you are a genuine person (most likely are, since you’re reading this ;) ), and you always express yourself in a way whereby you’re not doing everything simply for your own benefit – you will unmistakeably attract people. However here is the caveat. You will attract two kinds of people.

  • Those who think you’re invaluable.
  • Those who think you’re useful.

Learn how to discern between the two as soon as possible. Try not to accept the first person who enters your life as a potential lifelong friend. This is not to say that you shouldn’t trust people. You absolutely should!, however, take heed in knowing that there are a small number of people out there who will misuse you due to your good nature.

Being able to surround yourself around the right people becomes that much easer when you learn to accept yourself for who you are, but also when you have the assertiveness required to put your foot down and refrain from letting other people walk over you.

There are no Proven Methodologies

Or rather, I am unaware of them thus far. But I’d like to know what your thoughts on the topic are.

  • Do you have any tips or techniques people could use to help surround themselves around people who enrich their lives?
  • Think of all your greatest/closest friends, where and how did you meet? What has lead to the strength of your relationship?
